The item is commonly identified by the name “Jiffy Knife Sharpener,” with many surviving examples marked “Made in England.” A newspaper advertisement published in *The West Australian* on April 21, 1953, shows that the sharpener was already being sold commercially by the early 1950s. Vintage examples are therefore generally associated with the 1950s, although a specific inventor or manufacturer has not been consistently identified beyond the Jiffy branding.
