The conviction follows an investigation that began in February 2023, when LaRon Hodges was reported missing. His disappearance left those searching for him without answers about where he had gone or what had happened. Weeks later, investigators made a devastating discovery that transformed the missing-person case into a homicide investigation.
Hodges’s vehicle had been located at an apartment complex in Omaha, Nebraska. However, his body was not discovered until the car was taken to an impound lot in March. Inside the vehicle, authorities found his remains concealed in a trash can.
The details of his death were deeply disturbing. Investigators determined that Hodges had been shot 21 times before his body was hidden inside the vehicle. He was just 39 years old, and his life had ended in an act of extreme violence.
For his loved ones, the discovery meant the search was over, but the nightmare was far from finished. They were no longer waiting to learn where Hodges had disappeared; they were facing the reality that he had been murdered. The investigation now focused on identifying who was responsible and why someone had subjected him to such violence.Support Causes
A SECOND BODY AND A DISTURBING CONNECTION
Months after Hodges disappeared, another devastating discovery brought investigators into a second homicide case. In August 2023, the badly decomposed body of 46-year-old Lamar Nedd was discovered near 75th Street and Rainwood Road. His death raised new questions about the circumstances surrounding his final days.
At first, the two cases involved different victims whose remains were found in different places. But as detectives continued examining the evidence, they began identifying connections between the men. A mutual acquaintance eventually became an important focus of the investigation.
Investigators also identified a residence where they believed Nedd had been killed. Evidence recovered during a search helped connect the same suspect to both homicides. What had appeared to be separate killings was now being investigated as a disturbing pattern involving two victims.
That suspect was Erika Mims, a woman authorities believed had deliberately drawn the men into a dangerous situation. Prosecutors alleged that she lured both victims into a home before shooting them repeatedly. They also accused her of cleaning their bodies before disposing of their remains.
