Turkey hunting down south to kick off the week. Almost stepped on this guy. Anyone know what kind it is?

North America has one wild turkey species, Meleagris gallopavo, with several recognized subspecies. The National Wild Turkey Federation identifies five major subspecies in the United States: Eastern, Osceola or Florida, Rio Grande, Merriam’s and Gould’s.

For someone hunting in the South, however, the possibilities depend heavily on exactly where the hunt is taking place.
