This is what my bread looks like. It’s not mold. My mother-in-law says it would be wasteful not to use it, but it doesn’t look good to me. What should I do?

Proper storage can help extend the useful life of bread. If you expect to eat a loaf within a few days, keeping it sealed at room temperature can help protect it from excessive moisture and drying. A bread box or suitable bread container can also help maintain its texture. Refrigerating bread is generally not the best way to preserve its freshness because cooler temperatures can speed up some of the starch changes associated with staling.

Freezing is a practical option when you know you will not finish the loaf soon. Slicing the bread before freezing makes it easier to remove only the amount needed later. Store the slices in a well-sealed freezer-safe bag or container to reduce exposure to air and moisture. When needed, individual slices can be thawed or warmed directly.
