‘Team’ work Cops stop Knicks player thinking he’s a fan during parade

The Incident

As Kolek made his way down the barricade slapping hands with delirious fans, two NYPD officers moved in fast. One stepped directly into his path and grabbed his arms. Another put a hand on him from behind. For a brief, awkward moment, a man who had been on the Knicks roster all season long was being physically restrained by the very security detail meant to protect him.

A team employee — identified in some reports as Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson — quickly intervened to sort out the confusion, explaining to officers that the young man they were detaining was, in fact, a member of the championship squad. The cops released him. The parade went on.

Kolek’s response on social media was pitch-perfect. Posting on X alongside laughing emojis, he wrote: “I swear I’m on the team bro.” The post immediately became one of the most-shared moments of the entire day.
