Did you know? A photographer captured an incredible moment when a skydiver appeared to fall across the face of the Sun, creating the stunning photo “The Fall of Icarus.”

It took six passes over about an hour before they were able to line everything up correctly. During the process, McCarthy worked to capture Brown in exactly the right position against the Sun.

The idea for the unusual photograph came after McCarthy and Brown went skydiving together. They decided to combine Brown’s skydiving with McCarthy’s astrophotography.

After seeing the final result, McCarthy called it “absolutely preposterous (but real)” and said it might be “the first photo of its kind in existence.”

However, the final image is not a single photograph taken in one frame. It is a composite created by stitching together multiple high-resolution captures.

The result is a rare and dramatic image that makes it look as though a skydiver is falling across the face of the Sun.
