In 2005, a soldier serving overseas wrote a letter to his wife โ one line in it would end up changing thousands of lives.
He told her he wished they’d taken their kids to Disneyland. A small dream, nothing more, the kind you write down when you’re far from home.
He lost his life while serving his country, and never got the chance to keep that promise himself.
His wife wasn’t ready to let it disappear with him. In 2006, she and other families of fallen service members made the trip to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, in his honor.
What started as one family’s gesture didn’t stay small for long.
In 2007, actor Gary Sinise โ millions know him as Lieutenant Dan from “Forrest Gump” โ heard about the trip. He brought his own group, the Lt. Dan Band, to play for the families in person.
