After many years on the air, Judge Judy eventually reached its conclusion. CBS canceled the program in 2020, bringing an end to the series that had established Sheindlin as a familiar television figure for millions of viewers.
However, the end of Judge Judy did not mean that Sheindlin was ready to leave television. Instead, she continued working in the medium and moved into another chapter of her career.
Her most recent television project has been Judy Justice, a Prime Video courtroom series that allowed her to continue appearing in front of the camera.
The American arbitration-based reality court show has run for four seasons. Through the series, Sheindlin continued the courtroom format that had become such a defining part of her television career.
A new decision about her on-screen career
Now, however, Sheindlin appears ready to make another significant change. The 83-year-old television personality has revealed that her time regularly appearing in front of the camera may soon come to an end.
Sheindlin has indicated that once Judy Justice concludes in October, she intends to focus more of her attention on projects taking place behind the camera.
The decision does not mean she plans to disappear from television entirely. Instead, her future involvement will increasingly center on developing and producing projects rather than personally appearing on screen.
For someone who has spent decades becoming one of television’s best-known courtroom personalities, the change marks a new stage rather than a complete departure from the entertainment industry.
Why Judge Judy is stepping away
Sheindlin explained that she has many other interests she wants to pursue. After years of preparing for television appearances, she also made clear that the routines associated with being on camera are no longer something she wants to continue.
“I have a lot of other things of interest,” the TV star said. “I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”
Her comments suggest that stepping away from the camera is connected to how she wants to spend her time rather than an intention to completely stop working.
Sheindlin still wants to communicate her ideas and remain involved with television projects. The difference is that she now expects to have a greater role in shaping those projects from behind the scenes.
